Beat procrastination when writing a resume

Beating Procrastination

Procrastination will allow someone else to get your internship or job. The following suggestions will help you get past the stress of getting started:

1. FREE WRITE: Free writing is a tool that many professional writers use when they are in need of ideas. It takes the stress out of writing the perfect sentence on the first try. Allow your resume to evolve after a couple of drafts. No one is keeping score, so take your time.

2. SET REALISTIC GOALS: Reduce stress when writing your resume by breaking down particular goals. Break down the process so you can concentrate on each section individually.

3. DO SOME RESEARCH: You can find free assistance online or even at your local library. Review sample resumes, practice writing your objective and follow up with your career center for assistance. Always have someone review your resume before sending it out.

4. YOU ARE NOT ALONE: Everyone from entry level employees to experienced candidates go through stress when writing or updating a resume. Support is provided through groups on and off campus. Refer to your career center for more information about local services.
